This Week's Poll

Despite being 32 years of age, Allan refuses to give up the eyebrow piercing he got when he was 24. Is this:

Damn Straight: YMTIBSIMPOTSBICBMSITWAFGTMH Strikes Again

posted Wednesday, 19 July 2006

Hey folks it's time for the second installment of:

You May Think I'm Being Sarcastic But I Couldn't Be More Sincere About My Praise For This Subject If There Was A Fucking Gun To My Head!

This time my object of completely sincere praise are the following panels which comprise the 22nd page of this week's issue of DC Comics 52.  In them we get our first glimpse of a character who has been getting some unusual attention in the mainstream press for completely stupid reasons (namely that this particular superheroine's civilian alter ego is an out of the closet gay woman), when she should be getting attention simply for being so fucking cool it blows my mind.

The character whose thoughts we are privy to in these panels is former Gotham City detective Renee Montoya, who's been out of the closet for years without once getting any attention from folks who still think it's appropriate to include the words "POW!", "BIFF!" and "HOLY [INSERT YOUR OWN INANITY HERE]" into a headline for any and all articles about comic books.  She, like the reader, is getting her first glimpse of this new version of a long-forgotten character.

Note the presence of a killer ape.  It simply wouldn't be a proper introduction into the DC universe without a killer ape.

I cannot express to you how much I love the underlined emphasis of woman here.  It makes my ogling of her perfectly drawn backside seem like an impeccable feminist statement of female empowerment.

I couldn't have phrased it better myself Renee.  This one page in a comic book made me happier than any other creative work I've encountered this month*.

DC rules.

* Well, except for maybe this:
