A Brief Excerpt from 1980's Brick Bronson and the Close Encounter of a Deadly Kind by Stoney M. Badess
“What are they going to do to us, Brick?” asked Tina.
“It’s hard to say, girlie-girl,” he answered her nonchalantly, “but my best guess is that they’ll probe us, kill us and then dissect us.”
“But—“
“—Don’t you say it,” he interrupted her. “Don’t you ever say it!”
“I’m sorry,” she apologized. “I forgot.” She paused as she tried to think of another way to phrase her question. “How come?” was the best she could manage.
“Because that’s what they do,” he answered her.
“How can you remain so calm?” she wondered.
“It’s called valium,” he explained cheerfully.
